Lessons already learned from Ft McMurray Fire
Lessons already learned from Ft McMurray Fire

We held a Conference call on Wednesday May 4th 2016 to discuss critical steps for those who live or own property in Ft McMurray. Hopefully answering some of the key questions re Insurance claims and Mortgage Payment options during a natural disaster.

Hosted by REIN CEO Patrick Francey, on the line was Park Insurance’s rental property insurance expert Chris Westrop and Mortgage and Financing expert Peter Kinch.  They answered Members’ questions regarding rental property insurance and mortgage options available, post fire and evacuation.

If you missed it, that’s OK as we recorded it and it is now up and live for all to listen to (and share).  Here’s the direct link to stream it on-line: http://info.reincanada.com/fort-mcmurray-emergency-webinar

We have also received further updates:

#1: Just received an update that CIBC has also stepped up to help their mortgage clients in Ft Mac with options that include payment deferral and re-amortization options. Here’s the link to CIBC overview details:  http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/cibc-offers-assistance-to-fort-mcmurray-clients-and-donates-100000-to-support-the-canadian-red-cross-578124001.html

#2: ATB Financial has also stepped in for their clients (both business and mortgage) with a Disaster Relief Plan: http://www.atb.com/about/news/Pages/article.aspx?aid=578

#3  INSURANCE LESSON: If you don’t have Park Insurance’s REIN Member special coverage (much more coverage and safety than most rental property policies), you really should as they proved themselves during the Calgary Floods, the Slave Lake Fire and now again in this Ft McMurray disaster. (and NO I don’t get anything for saying this, other than the satisfaction to know that REIN Members have reduced their risk using it)  Here are the details  http://park.ca/rein/

Begin by listening to the tips and strategies in the recording then start taking action now. Whether you own in Ft McMurray or not – it is a great time to mitigate the risks in your own portfolio.

Please also share this link with others who can benefit from this knowledge.

UPDATE:

Not getting better: People who fled Fort McMurray wildfire now evacuated from #Anzac after fire moves south http://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/first-damage-assessment-says-80-per-cent-of-homes-destroyed-in-beacon-hill-in-fort-mcmurray/

To get a real life perspective of what your fellow Canadians are going through, watch this string of videos from someone barely escaping the flames.  Especially vid 2, 4 and 5.  Shocking:  http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/watch-one-drivers-incredible-videos-of-his-exodus-from-a-flaming-fort-mcmurray

Federal Government will be matching all funds donated to the Ft McMurrat Red Cross relief fund

More major banks have stepped up and created their own policies on Disaster Relief for proeprty and business owners in Ft Mac and region. Check with your bank to see what your options are.
